First things first.

I know many readers don't go to the forums, so I want to help spread the word that Kyo (the site's creator, owner, and maintainer) needs help to keep this site free.

I am currently a Patron (I don't like to brag about this stuff, and I never use my "star power" reward because I just don't), and am currently unemployed and can't raise my contribution just yet. But I want to help spread the word about Comic Fury's Patreon page. If you are in a comfortable position to do so, and want to support Comic Fury, this is a way to do so. I'm only at the $1 level now, but $2 helps more and I'm hoping we'll be more financially stable soon. When that happens, I'll be putting my money where my mouth is and upping my support. This site is amazing because of the freedoms Kyo affords us. If one can, it's always good to pay it forward. No pressure, no judging, just bringing awareness :3

Shimi may have more feeling than she pretends she has :3

Though I imagine being secluded in time and space for millennia would make one weird around other people. She has, from time to time, joined the world at different periods to experience life a little, and to be sure she's not completely disconnected from the advancement of cultures and technology.

One day, I'd like to do a one-shot following her life a little. Buuuuut it's not going to fit in Dark Horse.

**My dudes, we are already halfway through January. Where does the time go!?**

For the Holiday Secret Santa Exchange hosted and organized by Naan over on the Aradia Collective site (I love that collective. There's a lot of cool people who contribute), I was gifted this amazing musical piece by Thoma Nelson.

I am so impressed with this gift! And he said I could use it as I like, so I decided to make a small advertisement for Dark Horse. It was a fun little side project I really didn't have time for, buuuuuuut I wanted to do it :D

My partner read The Dark Horse Prophecy, because I feel my voice doesn't have the right cadence. If you like the music and want to hear more of Nelson's work, you may do so at the following links:

Unredacted Productions Bandcamp channel (is that a channel? That's what I'm gonna call it XD)

Information about the project in which T. Nelson participated.

Been thinking a lot about "the wheel of fate" this evening. Be careful y'all, because it is visibly turning.

Sadly yes, I feel the same way. I am hoping the better angels of our nature will over come the nasty, festering hatred many breed. I do not understand what some people hope to gain through the nihilism.

I have a lot of thoughts on how and why this should have been addressed much sooner...but it's all a moot point now. We have to look to the future. We really need to fix so much of our nation...I hope the new administration follows through with their promises. But beyond that, whether we want to be our brother's keeper or not, it's really up to society at large to decide whether they want to allow and accept this unprofitable mindset of fascism, or if they will do all they can to stamp it out.

Time will tell...

Apologies for the delayed response. I've been juggling some interruptions from real life *(and playing too much Salt and Sanctuary).

Is this going to be his second chance at this or did he try a few times? I am not sure how many timelines he escaped but I assume once.
Hopefully can be better prepared now for sure :/

Yes, only one. For the sake of this comic, let's just assume that if there were other tries, we will not see them or know of them.

______________________
I have a confession to make: there is a massive mistake I made back in “Opposition,” where we see Keisuma and Ozias talking about Yulie’s escape. This mistake contradicts everything I’m going to say in the “answer.”

The mistake is because I didn’t plan things out as I should have. I thought I had it planned, but my tunnel vision was/is so narrow. I’ve been trying to write and plan and repair parts that made no sense. This is thanks to you all reading and catching things I’ve been blind to :3 Thank you!

When I get to redrawing that act for the Revamp, I’m going to have this scene take place before Yulie’s escape, and I’m actually putting dates (holy crap! I should have been doing that to begin with), expressly stating “this is ____ days prior to Yulie’s time travel.”

I apologize for the confusion: I know I’m not the best writer, but your questions and comments are making this story better by making me think of things I didn’t when I started out.

Short answer:
Assume there is only one timeline, and this is the first time Yulie's traveled to the past. The future beyond the point in time he left has not been written and thus cannot be traveled to or seen. We don’t know if this trip will be successful, and neither do they. Shimi also can’t travel (or see) beyond the point Yulie traveled back. Because the future is uncertain, she will be willing to break rules set for her by her “gods,” in order to save the world (which she will reason is still fulfilling their will). A bit of a spoiler, but not really since we can surely all see where this is going :)

Long Answer:
This is lengthy mostly because I’m working things out to be as clear as possible for myself as much as anyone who reads this XD

The way I am now handling it is that the future beyond the time when Odysseus left has not happened at all. So *technically* the present is the moment in time he left and traveled to the past.

Anything beyond that is unknown, since it hasn't been "written." As if time has stopped. We won’t know if he’s successful, but this trip back in time should make them all more prepared to deal with the “present.” So time, in this instance, is like a reel of film that is being recorded (which we talked about before), but stopped before the rest of the reel has been filled. It will only start again once all who traveled back have returned to the "present."

Having people from the past in the present that are aware of what happened in their future is a paradox I’m willing to accept, as it is possible the future is predestined. There’s no way to know because this is the timeline we’re experiencing. So I’m not going to 100% say other timelines don’t exist, or haven’t existed. And this may actually be the second time around, but we’re going to view it as the first time, because the characters can’t go any further in time then where they began: by “them” I mean Yulie, who initiated the time travel spell. I hope that makes some sort of sense. I know it’s the not the best explanation, but I am hoping it covers the story. (Thank GOD I’m not dealing with time travel in the next series XD Too much for my brain to handle XD XD).

The past is known and can be traveled to (but only in rare cases, and not for much longer…which gets into spoiler territory). Anything in the future (that is, passed when Yulie left the "present," which we've been calling the "future," because it is from the girls' perspective their future) cannot be entered. Which hasn't come up as a question the girls have, but will. (This is a bit repetitive, but I want to leave it here as a note to myself.)

Things have been moving kinda fast for Kanna and Rin, and until now they haven't understood the full gravity of the situation. Since meeting Yulie at the park the night of June 28, 1999, we’ve only covered three days. Ceremony is taking place the evening of day three, June 30, 1999. (Wow! You’d never know it!) At the end of this chapter, I’m going to have a timeline. I probably should put that up somewhere on the site o_O I need to update and improve this site anyway. I have such a long “To Do” list :*(

I hope all that makes sense! I also hope I don’t sound condescending: that is not at all the voice I’m writing this in. I’m more trying to also explain for myself :D

Wha! One more thing XD Sorry, it's such a wall of text D: OMG! I hope no one regrets asking questions...geez! I'm awful!

Regarding Keisuma: though time has stopped in the present, a demon is incorporeal and capable to moving through time if they've branded a person who travels. Normally, their essence would be stuck in whatever time they are in, however, since she's made a mark on Rensha, and he had traveled with Yulie (which we'll see how and why later), that part of her essence was able to act of its own accord. But, since Rensha was killed, that soul/being was returned to the present by default, and returned to the body she is wholly possessing.

That's how she was able to work through Rensha. I had to put this, because if I didn't, I'd forget my reason for that working XD

Yup, that makes sense!
What you mention is probably when I started thinking that but I also remember the whole deal about stealing the magic scrolls. Maybe it was related to another event but somewhere there was a vague hint at the timeline I think I misunderstood as multiple attempts at this point.
I do not think it caused any damage though since this is about the only issue I see differently now. At least it is not going to cause any damage anymore once it is relevant to the plot directly.
It also "corrected" Odysseus's personality slightly in my eyes because like this it makes sense he is very hopeful. Another chance like this (even if considered to be the first by the right logic) is a blessing. It is not like you cannot be hopeful otherwise but well, if you try to correct a terrible future event 5 times and everything still converges to the same result but in a different way then that sucks a whole lot more.

As for time travel and multiple timelines: Well, it is not like anybody understands it. We do not even know what the hell the "present" truly is. It is just some concept people feel that they are in a place at the right time doing something they can observe happening but otherwise the "present" was confirmed via experiments to be many things and points in time for different observers of the experiment.

If somebody says they have the true working time travel story then I naturally expect an explosion of science articles a week later and a complete breakthrough in our understanding of time.
There are always going to be problems and holes with time travel and usually the same ones over and over again. I would not feel bad about it, really. We, at this point, DO NOT and CANNOT know how this could all work.

That is why I put stuff into three categories when it comes to time mumbo-jumbo:
1. Time travel is a big part of the narrative but everything is done in a way that it is not something you should take especially seriously. When it is obvious you should flow with it, have fun and focus on the story that happens around it. Like here or in Chrono Trigger or in Back to the Future.
---
2. The opposite in a way. Let's say Christopher Nolan movies. There the main focus IS the time travel mechanic or the placement of events in a non-linear way or some sort of time manipulation that is more than just a burst of speed or slowdown. Here I am prone to actually giving the logic necessary thought to a sensible degree since as I said, we DO NOT know how this could work in reality. So you focus on some sensible and clever approach but it is very open to criticism now because it is not meant to be "just" flown with. It is in quotes because I do not find competition between categories 1 and 2 to be rational. Two completely different aims. I just cannot describe it properly, LMAO.
---
3. Heresy. Adjusting timelines for the heck of it just to fit in something else and knowing it could be a mistake but going with it and then casually just changing not dates, but whole years full of events. For instance, they are rewriting Dark Imperium timeline wise to fit with a sudden third book in the series because... I do not know why they cannot do it the other way!? Basically changing a crusade that lasted a century to about a decade just to cram in some more events and whatever else.
At some point you need chronological flow of events. Even if your universe is based on extremes and all sorts of distortions. Sigh.

I love your three categories! Yeah, that's about right XD

I think Doctor Who would kinda fit into Category 1 XD

Something like Looper you gotta pay a lot of attention to, since it's supposed to make sense.

Which Nolan film dealt with time travel? I can never remember which ones are all his (I often forget he did Watchmen. I know Moore took a lot of beef with his version...I liked them both, but of course side a bit MOORE with Moore XD XD (couldn't help myself).

My partner used to play War Hammer a lot, but I'm not sure how much he kept up with the stories, though. I get your point. Retconing stuff just to make things convenient or not work within the groundwork that's already been laid...seems a bit lazy when your franchise is as large as War Hammer o_O And I'm sure they have access to a lot of amazing writers. Not sure why they'd go that route (but now we're in territory I know very little to nothing about, so I'll be showing my ignorance XD)

OK, sorry, I meant any sort of time manipulation. Usually time travel but it can also be anything that deals with spacetime.

There are always going to be artistic leaps and bending of rules and inaccuracies about what we assume to be true because a story also have to be interesting and comply with the script in some way. That is what is important because otherwise you have complaints about things like incorrect explosions in space or sounds of space combat when there is about zero point in bringing that up ever, lmao.

That is why I have those three categories (although the third one is more like problematic stuff) but they are a personal preference plus I think actually assigning works into them can differ between people. It is something that helps me enjoy stuff on various levels under an angle I consider to be better for me :D
