Hey you guys! I've been having a discussion with some people regarding comic format. Specifically, whether the "right to left" format is really...necessary/reasonable/useful/etc.

I have enjoyed writing the comic in this manner. But as I am trying to be more professional, reach a larger audience, and focus more on my actual art and story-telling (visually & verbally,) I feel I may have outgrown the this format.

That's in no way to say I look down on comics that are not Japanese that are read right to left: I honestly admire someone working against their natural inclinations to learn and experience other ways of viewing/creating media. I understand it goes beyond only "copying Japan." So I am not in any way trying to belittle or insult people doing this (including myself.)

However, on a personal level, I think weighing constructive criticism with practicality is very important. And I know I need to grow/improve as an artist. Maybe doing this comic the way I write will help with this growth? It's good to change things up..and since I've not had any instruction on visual story telling, I'm compelled to take the advice of superior artists :)

So getting to the point: Would my readers object to me changing from drawing/writing the comic to a LEFT TO RIGHT format?

*When I change the style, I will do it when I start Act 6, and I will slap a giant warning page to let people know the change is happening.

*I will be back tracking and fixing (again) what I've done of the revamp (I need to do some tweaking to be less confusing anyway: I've had a couple people give me good feed back, and I'm going to start dragging my partner into helping me with making more sense :) )

*Moving forward, for those looking at the revamp, Act 3 will be written in the LEFT TO WRITE format.

***If this is going to cause a mass drop of readers, I won't do this. While I value other's opinions, you are the people who have been reading and enjoying the story: most people commenting I don't think have even been here to read...probably because of the art/right to left format--I'm not judging them, just saying, they have less at stake than you guys do***

Thank you so much for any input you give me. I don't know if I say it enough, but while I do my art for "myself," I am a person who also finds validation in sharing her work. To be less wordy: You guys make me feel good, and feel like I'm doing something worthwhile. Yeah, I do this for myself, 'cause I have a story I want to tell--but I don't want to just tell it to myself :)

Hm. Seems to me you are more conflicted than asking? If it is about a larger audience in relation to this particular parameter then there are two questions easily answered:
Have you ever seen people complaining about right-to-left?
Have you ever seen people complaining about left-to-right?

If you are unsure and have feelings for one then maybe do what works best for YOU since it is YOUR thing :>

As for myself, I am fine with both the same. I read both formats. Right-to-left requires about 0.1% more effort, haha. At the beginning anyway. I only like when it is noted I should read like that when it is clearly not Japanese manga. Many Korean comics are left-to-right by default though.

The only place I have seen this taken seriously is by the very few Western artists who have a following on Pixiv. However, they also can communicate in Japanese so it makes sense to be proper in all areas. Otherwise, it is more of a personal conviction how "legit" you want to be with your own manga counting on usually strictly Western base.

Fun fact: In the anime Monster, Dr. Tenma in one scene is reading German newspapers right-to-left. That is the category of very adorable oversights, haha.

Yeah, I'm getting the feel most people won't object to the change. So at this point...I'm just preparing myself for the change. I've got...so much to do right now (always X'D)

LOL! That's hilarious! Dr. Tenma apparently has no trouble reading in any order at all XD Ah...Japan...

If you think that time is worth it then yup! Since you are reworking old pages you might as well switch them now. Win-win.
